5th Annual Rivercrest Triathlon
It’s hard to believe that it’s time once again for our annual triathlon. We hope you are able to join us on Monday, September 7th (Labor Day) as we swim, run and bike our way through Rivercrest! We’re gearing up for an even better event than last year’s, when we had 120 athletes between the ages of 3 and 15 participate.
The Rivercrest Triathlon was created in 2005 to promote health and fitness within our community. This “event” can be whatever you and your kids want it to be – a chance to do something they’ve never done before, an opportunity for healthy competition between friends and family, or simply a way to get out and enjoy a fabulous neighborhood gathering.
We will manage the registration process through Active.com once again this year. Early bird registration will run through August 24th, so please be sure to sign up early. We encourage you to pass the word along to your neighbors and friends as well.
Our triathlon has become something many of our kids look forward to as a way to celebrate the end of summer. We hope you can come join in the fun.
If you have any questions, please email me at jackie_funk@yahoo.com or contact any member of the Triathlon Committee.
See you on the course!
Jackie Funk,
On behalf of the Rivercrest Triathlon Committee
Why Participate?
It’s a great opportunity to instill the importance of fitness in our kids’ lives!
There will be music, prizes, healthy food and drinks.
The Sterling Volunteer Fire Department will be there to cheer you on and cool you down after the race!
How Do I Register?
We utilize Active.com for the registration process. To register, simply visit our
Registration page.
The individual registration fee is $25 if paid by August 24th and $35 from August 25th until September 4th. Walk-ups will only be accepted on a space available basis.(Proceeds to benefit the Sterling Volunteer Fire Department and the Rivercrest Swim Team)
The registration deadline is September 4th. Don’t delay - the field is limited to the first 100 participants and will fill up fast. Email Jackie Funk at jackie_funk@yahoo.com if you have additional questions.
What kind of a race is it? The triathlon consists of three parts: Swim, Bike and Run. The race will begin at our pool and will continue out to the transition area (pool parking lot) where participants will change into their shoes and hop on their bikes. After completing the bike leg, participants will transition to the last leg of the race – the run! Upon completion of the run, the participant will run through the finish line and celebrate their accomplishment!
The length of the race and the designated course varies by age group. For specific information, please click on the course information page.
How do we prepare the kids for the event?
To help individuals prepare for the race, Kristin DiDomenico and Laurie Bickart will conduct training sessions. The objective of the training is to introduce race concepts to our triathletes and lead fun exercises and games that promote fitness. Click here for more information on the training sessions.
If your kids are unable to join one or more training sessions, please do take the time to introduce the course to them and/or join them in preparing for race day.
How safe is this?
The triathlon committee has taken every precaution to design a course that is safe, friendly, fun and challenging. Streets will be closed to traffic and monitored by a course management to ensure that children will be safe.
Does it cost anything?
Yes, a nominal fee of $25 ($35 for late entries) per child is needed for the event. This cost will go towards refreshments, awards and other related expenses. All proceeds will be donated to the Sterling Volunteer Fire Department and the Rivercrest Riptide Swim Team.
What else should we know?
This is a FUN event! Parents, kids and observers all have a great time. We’ll have music, healthy food and drinks. Awards will be given to ALL participants. Best of all…our very own Sterling Volunteer Fire Department is also expected to be there for the entire event. This means we’ll also get to participate in the annual “cool down” after the race (when the fire department’s ladder truck rises high in the sky and sprays everyone who’s interested)!
Sponsors:
How can I sponsor the race?
Sponsors are a very welcome and necessary component of the success of our triathlon. Proceeds will go towards race expenses. Any remaining funds will be donated to the Sterling Volunteer Fire Department and the Rivercrest Swim Team. Last year, over $1,000 was donated to the fire department and swim team!
There are two levels of sponsorship:
Gold Level ($100 or more) – Company name/logo on the triathlon website, promotion within community (through communications, such as newsletters, website and emails) and on participants’ t-shirts
Silver Level ($50) – Company name/logo on the triathlon website and promotion within community (through ongoing communications, such as newsletters, website and emails)
All sponsors are welcome to hang a banner along the fence at the race and provide freebies for the race package.
Blue line is the short course Yellow line is the long course
Parking lot is the transition area (closed off to cars)
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
Please contact the volunteer coordinator, Kristen Suchy, for the task that you would like to help. We need your support to make this event a fun and safe place for the children of our commmunity.
