Inclement Weather Policy
Where do I go to find out if a meet or practice is cancelled?
The Riptide uses the “OneCallNow” system to notify swimmers of practice and meet cancellations. Parents should check the web
site for any updates and weather cancellations.

Coaches Information:

  Name Phone email
Head Coach: Andrew Donnelly (703) 887-4626 theRiptide@hotmail.com
Coaches  Meghan Butt   MegButt115@yahoo.com
  Nicole Butt   Dance2Flute@aol.com
Jr. Coaches Justin Jenter   j-j-jenter@msn.com
  Maddie Bullock   maddiebullock91@verizon.net

Please talk to the coaches AFTER a practice or meet. Please do not monopolize a coach's time during a practice or meet to discuss your individual swimmer. The coaches are responsible for coaching many children at once and need to be allowed time and space to manage the team. Please stay off the deck near the pool as much as possible during practices.

Meet Information:

Who swims on Wednesday and Saturday meets?
All members of the Riptide swim on Wednesday and Saturday meets. There are no “A and B” meets in the Old Dominion Swim League.

Where should my swimmer report when we arrive at a meet?
Tell your swimmer to see Andrew as soon as they arrive.  Roll call begins at 7:00 a.m.

Who do I contact if my swimmer can't attend a meet?
Please let Coach Andrew know by seeing him after practice.

How will my swimmer know when it is time to line up for his or her next event?
During meets, the swimmers will stay with the team in their designated age-group area. Please have them limit trips to the snack bar, etc. The coaches will call out the upcoming events. If the swimmers have any questions about their next event, they should contact one of the coaches.

Do we have a team web site?
Thanks to Hau Mai of Retina Studios we have a web site. Jeff Bickart will also help with maintaining the site. Go to: swimteam.rivercrest.org for more information.

What is Time Trials?
The Riptide Time Trial is an actual meet with no opponent.  Swimmers compete to provide seeding times for the upcoming meets, volunteers learn the ropes and everyone practices their cheers.

Following is a timeline for all meets and Time Trials:
7:00 AM  -  Swimmers on deck for roll call
7:15-7:30 AM  - Home Team Warm-Up
7:35-7:50 AM – Away Team Warm-Up
7:50 AM  - Entrance
7:55 AM  - National Anthem
8:00 AM  - Meet Starts

Do I have to volunteer for my child to be on the team?
Parent involvement is important since we can’t run a swim team or a meet without it. We’ve all had our kids in soccer or team sports where two or three parents ran the team. Swimming isn’t like that.

It takes about 30-35 volunteers at the meet to run a successful, smooth event. Every job is important, but none requires too much training. The descriptions listed on the “Volunteer Form” will give you some idea of what you need to know before the meet starts.

All volunteers should report to the Volunteer Coordinator to sign in. The Parent Volunteer Form must be turned in upon registration. Your registration will not be complete without turning in the Volunteer Form.

Where should I park at practices, home meets, and time trials?
For practices, you may park and drop-off in the pool lot. For time trials and home meets, the parking lot will be used as a team area so parking will not be permitted. Please NO PARKING IN RESIDENTIAL AREAS. This will be enforced by our parking marshall. All parking will be permitted up River Bank beginning at the intersection of River Crest/Ox Bow.

IV. Ribbon Information:

Will every child get a ribbon?
Yes. Please check your families file folder at the next practice to find your ribbons. If your child receives a “participation ribbon,” with writing on the ribbon, that means that your child DQd (disqualified) in that event. The hand-written note will indicate why the child was DQd. For example, “Remember to touch with two hands in fly.” Means: the child only touched with one hand coming into the wall.

V. League Information:

What swim league are we in?
The Rivercrest Swim Team is part of the Old Dominion Swim League (ODSL), a five-year-old developmental competitive league, which is based in Loudoun County. They have 22 teams with approximately 2,000 swimmers.  ODSL rules and regulations can be found on their web site www.odsl.net.
